Lakenheath Alliance for Peace start their walk and camp to stop US nuclear weapons returning to RAF Lakenheath

Lakenheath Alliance for Peace is an alliance of 34 organisations and scores of individuals, dedicated to peace and no US nuclear weapons on UK soil – or nuclear weapons anywhere.

40 walkers set off from City Hall in Norwich, accompanied by XR Norwich Drummers and given a send off by the Sheriff of Norwich, (in his personal capacity), to protest the imminent return of US nuclear weapons to RAF Lakenheath.  Over the first day’s 10 mile walk, conversations about nuclear weapons and the secrecy that surrounds the decision to have US nuclear weapons again on UK soil was had with the public en route.

It is important to raise awareness about the threat of these weapons of mass destruction and the current scary high in the tensions in the world, where the use of nuclear weapons is not being discounted.

The walkers will continue to RAF Lakenheath and arrive on Monday 15th July where they will set up camp until 25th July – and then who knows what may happen?

Women at Greenham Common remained for 19 years, until the land was returned to the people of the UK. Lakenheath Alliance for Peace hope the US nuclear weapons will be prevented from coming at all.

The walkers will rally at the Thomas Paine statue in Thetford at noon tomorrow, Sunday 14th, to highlight the town’s dangerous neighbours at RAF Lakenheath, only 13 miles away. You are invited to join us to walk and camp.
