“Apart from giving President Putin the opportunity to try and justify his own threat of using nuclear weapons, the stationing of US nuclear weapons on UK territory raises the appalling prospect of the US initiating a nuclear war – UK consent not needed – in which UK would quickly be eliminated in reprisal strikes by Putin. However this would merely be the opening shots in a global meltdown under skies dark with radioactive dust at the onset of the ultimate climate change of a nuclear winter. The combination of UK increasing its stock of nuclear warheads and the US using Lakenheath to forward store in Europe more stocks of their own flies in the face of the Non Proliferation Treaty and makes the world a less, rather than more, safe space and should be resisted strongly by a new generation of Greenham Commoners”
